Isn't It Romantic?
Show your dearest one some love with this trio of treats for Valentine's Day.
Tomorrow kicks off the unofficial month of love. Whether you believe in celebrating Valentine’s Day or not, let this month be a reminder to show those in your life just how much they mean to you. It can be through gifts, sure, but expressions of love can take many forms. How we treat the people who know and love us best all year long will ultimately mean more than any singular gesture. The way this holiday has grown and expanded to include honoring friendships and family members better fits what we know love to be: multifaceted, powerful and expandable.
If you do decide to dabble in some Valentine’s Day shopping, this week’s three picks would make anyone feel the love. None are single use like flowers or candy, but will instead pamper the recipient long after February has passed.
Let’s spread some love.
1. Glossier You Solid (£24)
Perfume is a pretty traditional gift. But the return of Glossier’s travel-friendly solid fragrance is a far more practical option than a glass vial. I love perfume, but bringing it along (especially if it’s a pricier bottle you’ve been gifted) can lead to an aromatic disaster in your luggage. Glossier’s signature fragrance You features notes of ambrette seeds, ambrox, pink pepper and iris. It smells divine on anyone and everyone and isn’t overpowering. I’m glad they brought back this balm version in a refillable, metal compact for taking on the road or tossing in a gym bag.
2. Leatherology Train Cases ($135 to $190)
With a name I could never find on stationary, keychains or souvenir trinkets growing up, I’ve grown to adore personalized gifts. Fit for the beauty lover in your life, this train case from Leatherology (the leather goods brand led by brother-sister duo David and Rae Liu) will hold and protect all of their lotions and potions beautifully. With a water-resistant lining, plenty of interior pockets and a top handle, these cases are available in medium and extra large sizes. The roomier option also has hooks on the sides for a removable crossbody strap (not included).
3. Jonathan Adler Vice Love Candle (£78)
When it comes to home furnishings, Jonathan Adler is my vice. I love his take on American glamour, injecting humor into all of his designs while still creating items you’ll keep for years and years. That’s why his new line of Vice candles makes for the perfect playful Valentine’s Day gift. Available in Love as well as Lust and Envy, they’ll send whatever message you like as a two-for-one present: A deliciously scented candle in one of Adler’s iconic, hand-painted porcelain canisters. Once the candle is gone, they can hold everything from candy to loose change, in style.
Something to think about …
Relationships are not stagnant. They’re constantly moving forward, bringing both anticipated and surprising changes to our personalities, needs and wants. That’s why I loved this essay from American humorist David Sedaris, who talks candidly about the evolution of his decades-long relationship with his partner, Hugh.
Last week on MIDDI …
