Autumn is upon us. The air is getting crisper and the colors richer. It’s still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, but evenings are all about fluffy blankets and roasted dinners. It’s the perfect time of year to relax and look after yourself and your home following a summer of travel and before the hectic sprint of the holidays. Whether you like it pumpkin spiced or mulled, this is the season for coziness.
For this week, I chose three items that will help you transition into autumn with ease. Buy them once and you’re set for the season (and beyond).
Now go chase the sun, before the days get even shorter.
1. Aveeno Calm + Restore™ Triple Oat Serum ($17.99)
Our skin’s needs change as the temperature drops and we turn on the heat for the first time. If your skin needs a bit of extra moisture or is feeling irritated, I can’t recommend this lightweight serum from Aveeno (an American pharmacy favorite started in 1945 by Mayo Clinic dermatologists and brothers Sidney and Albert Musher) highly enough. Combining their signature Prebiotic Triple Oat Complex with feverfew, it’s super nourishing and has helped me calm down bouts of eczema and even sunburn quickly and gently. It also just landed at Boots here in the UK.
2. Sheertex Classic Sheer Tights (£74)
When I think of autumnal fashion, black tights always come to mind. I used to buy several new pairs every year, having to toss them not long after full of snags and rips. Then I found Sheertex and that was the end of that story. Founded by Katherine Homuth, their patent-pending knit is not only stretchy and durable, but also soft and machine washable. These “unbreakable” tights may be pricey, but they will still be in great shape next autumn. And likely the one after that. You can’t go wrong with the Classic Sheers to keep your legs warm while making them look miles long.
3. Wxy. Reed Diffusers (£24)
One of the easiest ways to mark the change of seasons is to switch up the scents in your home. When autumn rolls around, I opt for something more woodsy that reminds me of a crackling fire. Made with 100% soy wax, these reed diffusers from Wxy. make a wonderful addition to any room. All of the scents are natural and elegant—nothing artificial or too sweet—and I love the minimal, clean packing. Unlike other diffusers, this one lasted me all through spring and summer. Now that I’ve finished the one called eos, I’m planning to pick up aura.
Something to think about …
From the caramel apples and scarves to the Halloween decorations, autumn is a season people are very passionate about. Very. So if you’re in need of a laugh to start the week, this piece by Colin Nissan for McSweeney’s is sure to help.
