And in the blink of an eye, it’s 2022. While every new year is a fresh start, the last two have felt in a lot of ways more like a continuation of the one before. That feeling can be hard to grapple with as we make the typical pledges to better ourselves and our lives in the months ahead, which is exactly why I never set any major resolutions. The excitement of a new challenge quickly turns to pressure, which often turns to guilt. So instead, I’m going into 2022 just as I did 2021, determined to work for my health and happiness, in whatever form that may take from day to day, week to week.
The three items I chose to kick off 2022 will enhance your wellness routine without major sacrifice in terms of time, cost or comfort. They aren’t meant to add assignments to your schedule, but to be there when you need a little bit extra.
It’s a new year—let’s be kind to ourselves.
1. 8Greens Tablets (£14 to £78)
I know how much better I feel when I make greens a part of my regular diet, but that doesn’t make getting enough every day easy, especially while traveling. That’s why I adore these quick-dissolving tabs from Dawn Russell, founder of 8Greens. Unlike other greens powders I’ve tried, this tab dissolves completely in cold water—no grit or bitterness. With a light lemon-lime flavor, it’s easy to gulp down after a workout, giving you a dose of spinach, kale, aloe vera, wheatgrass, blue green algae, barley grass, chlorella and spirulina. By setting up a subscription, I save 15 percent.
2. Superga Trainers (£55 and up)
Walking as much as possible is an essential part of my wellness routine. Living in a big city without a car certainly helps get me out the door, but working from home and having essentials delivered means I’ve had to make more of an effort lately. Supergas have been my go-to trainer for more than five years now, perfect for hours of strolling for work or leisure. Founded in 1911 in Turin, Italy, Superga makes a range of shoes available in leather and canvas, starting with the classic 2750. Many styles are on sale right now, which makes this the perfect time to try a pair of these comfy kicks.
3. P.volve Slant Board ($89)
P.volve is by far my favorite at-home workout. As a former dancer, their focus on low-impact movements and flexibility (particularly in the hips) really suits my body where it is now. Created by Stephen Pasterino and Rachel Katzman, they incorporate lots of unique equipment, but after almost 18 months of their workouts, the item I enjoy using most is the Slant Board. Stepping on and off this inclined board takes your workouts to the next level, putting all of your body’s stability muscles to work to help you balance. Simple movements with light resistance quickly take on a new intensity.
Something to think about …
Let’s be clear about one thing: You are not required to do anything in January or any other time of the year. You do not need fixing. My goal is always to provide helpful suggestions, not requirements. In the spirit of embracing exactly who you are, here’s a book by one of my self-love heroes.
Last week on MIDDI …
