Warmth is a sign of comfort and contentment. It’s a word you can feel as you read it. We get the sensation of being warm when we’re eating something delicious, spending time with those we love or lounging in our favorite chair with a book (or a TV series we’ve seen a million times, like SATC). Surrounded by the familiar and free of to-do lists, we’re able to just be for a while. After all we’ve been through (and with everything still going on in this crazy world), it’s time to revel in that warmth—let it wash over us and drink it in, whatever form it takes.
The three items featured in this week’s edition are all designed to give you that sense of comfort. They’ll help you feel more pampered and create a warm, cozy space in your home. Keep them for yourself or pass them along to someone else.
Wishing you lots of warmth.
1. Saint Jane Luxury Body Serum (£47)
As it gets colder and colder outside, I start layering serums and creams from head to toe. I first picked up a bottle of this body serum from Saint Jane (founded by beauty industry veteran Casey Georgeson) at my go-to NYC pharmacy and really enjoyed using it before bed. The blend of CBD, exfoliating acids and 28 botanicals peaked my interest and—thankfully—agreed with my skin. This aromatic serum (which is more of a dry oil) absorbs well and helps with inflammatory conditions like body acne and keratosis pilaris while also providing soothing hydration.
2. Laines London Classic Slippers (£35 and up)
I am always cold, so my slippers are never far away. If you have perpetually chilly toes like me, why not try a pair with a bit of glamour? Launched in 2019, Laines London is a line of accessories including socks, eyes masks and fuzzy slippers, which are available in a variety of colors. Each pair is decorated with removable, beaded brooches (or “shoe-llery” as they call them) and there’s everything from donuts to horses. I’m a fan of the snake design (pictured above) and would probably even wear them while entertaining friends at home.
3. Abigail Ahern Laflin Lamp (£127)
When I think of feeling warm and cozy, I imagine a room with plenty of plush furnishings and low lighting. And choosing the right lamp can make all the difference. I first found the store of English interior designer Abigail Ahern when I was in need of a small, cordless lamp (our flat doesn’t have overhead lights in most rooms). I love the shape and texture of this table lamp, which adds that extra bit of softness to a room. I have been dreaming of the mustard version for months now as I plan a revamp of our bedroom for after the new year. Stay tuned.
Something to think about …
It’s no secret the music we listen to is a reflection of how we’re feeling. That’s why some music becomes a seasonal tradition. One album I always seem to go back to during this time of year is Speak For Yourself by English singer Imogen Heap. It also features prominently in another comforting tradition of mine, The Holiday.
