Buying clothes for someone isn’t something I typically recommend—unless that someone lives under your roof. No one wants to be put in the position of guessing sizes and fashion is the definition of subjective.
Accessories, on the other hand, give you a little more room to play. You can take cues from pieces they already have or make note of items they mention liking or needing.
The second edition of the annual MIDDI gift guides is for the style mavens in your life—the ones who look put together without looking too put together. These mid-priced buys will accentuate their already-great taste without costing you an arm and a leg.
1. Daniel Wellington Watches (£89 and up)
Much as I’m addicted to my cell phone, I’ll always love a classic analog watch. Daniel Wellington is a Swedish brand founded in 2011 by Filip Tysander and inspired by the actual Mr. Wellington and his minimalist, British style. Their elegant watches complement any look and are affordable enough that the recipient can build a collection to suit different outfits. Choose from NATO fabric, leather, mesh or link straps and a variety of metals and faces. I picked up the Iconic Link gold watch in Tokyo with an emerald face and have been wearing it ever since.
2. Sorel Women’s Kinetic™ Impact Conquest Waterproof Sneaker Boot (£155)
Much like I’ve never been a fan of hiking, I’ve never been a fan of hiking boots—at least not the look of them. But living in the UK has sparked something in me and I’m more drawn to the outdoors now than I’ve ever been. If you have someone on your list who would never shy away from a rainy, slushy or muddy walk, these waterproof sneaker/boot hybrids from Sorel are an excellent choice for both hillsides and city streets. They’re insulated and have a Livelyfoam™ midsole and Evertread™ rubber outsole for comfort and traction. And they look anything but basic.
3. Saint + Sofia Hoxton Studded Phone Bag (on sale for £89)
When I’m running errands or want to leave large bags at home, I still need a way to keep my phone handy and protected. While I enjoy using a phone necklace while I’m walking Scoop, sometimes I want something a bit more dressed up. This leather phone bag from Saint + Sofia (previously featured here) has a flap closure to keep devices secure along with a cardholder in the back. It’s the perfect accessory for nights out in crowded bars or visits to venues with size restrictions on bags. The studs also add a bit of an edge to the wearer’s ensemble.
