Sometimes, more is more. And in those instances, more is better (like this maximalist lounge at The Grove). We all need that extra oomph once in a while to make us feel our best. It might be a fragrance or a cherished accessory that helps give us confidence or a piece of artwork that always elicits a smile—it doesn’t have to be extravagant, it just has to speak to us.
This week’s three items all make excellent finishing touches for your person or your home. Each is meant to beautifully accent your life and lift your mood, because a little something extra makes every day feel more special.
With all of life’s ups and downs, let’s raise a glass to more, whenever we need it.
1. Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc for Her Eau de Parfum (£45 to £68)
Perfume samples are honestly one of my least favorite freebies. Choosing a scent is so personal, which is why I’ve amassed bowls of tiny vials that are collecting dust yet feel too precious to toss. But this scent from American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez was a rare exception. The top notes are jasmine and orange blossom, blended with amber, heart of musc, patchouli and woodsy cashmeran. It’s not too floral, not too musky, not too fancy or too casual. Spray it on day or night to complete your look without feeling overtaken by its aroma.
2. Shashi NYC Jade Pave Bracelet (£47)
Whether worn around the neck or the wrist, a simple gold chain adds just the right touch of glamour to any outfit. And demi-fine jewelry is an excellent way to upgrade your current collection without spending a fortune (or turning your skin green). This delicate bracelet from Shashi NYC is available in 18ct gold vermeil on sterling silver with a bit of sparkle at the clasp. I’ve been a fan of Shashi for years now—their designs are minimal and elegant, the kind of jewelry I always pack for a trip because it goes with everything.
3. Bag & Bones The Paint Pot (£79)
Decorating your home should be fun. Look for something that highlights your interests, sparks a conversation or even tricks the eye. Our West London flat is the most traditional we’ve lived in in terms of architectural details, which made this illusion piece from Acton studio The Candy Store the perfect choice. Handmade from resin, it’s surprisingly lightweight but very sturdy. Like many of their sculptures, these pots are released in limited batches. Sign up to be notified when the next round drops. You can see how I styled it in our home on my Instagram.
Something to think about …
Right now I’m reading A Little Life, the superb 2015 novel by Hanya Yanagihara, editor-in-chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine. Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, it follows four male friends and former college classmates living in NYC as they navigate careers, relationships, identity and mental health.
