Let's Hit the Road
Streamline your packing list with three products made for carefree holidays.
Travel sustains the spirit and expands the mind. Whether the journey is short or long, the destination new or familiar, the value of travel has never been more clear. Leaving behind our routines—and stresses—for even just a day or two can be truly healing, opening our hearts to experiences that help us grow in immeasurable ways.
But as we start to travel again, we’re reminded of one not-so-pleasant aspect of any adventure: packing. No one wants to end up lugging around too many extras that lead to more baggage fees and less souvenir space. The three items featured this week should help you whittle down your packing list a bit and keep your valuables protected, no matter where you end up.
Wishing you safe, rejuvenating travels and memories to last a lifetime.
1. SMPL Cleansing Cream (€17)
A cream cleanser is ideal for all skin types, AM and PM. In the morning, it preps your skin for the day without stripping its moisture. In the evening, it melts away makeup, sunscreen and sweat to help your skin recover. This versatile cleanser from Dutch skincare brand SMPL was an impulse purchase from Cosmania’s former brick-and-mortar shop in Amsterdam. Its blend of oils (coconut, jojoba and avocado) deeply cleans the skin without leaving it tight or clogging pores. It’s also fragrance free and can be used as a hydrating mask after a long flight.
2. Russell & Bromley Portland Fisherman Sandal (£195)
Cutting down on the amount of shoes to bring on a trip is always a hard one. Between sightseeing and dining out, it can quickly get out of hand. But a well-made pair of fisherman sandals like these from the iconic Russell & Bromley (founded in 1880) is a versatile option suitable for a number of summer outings. Made in Italy from the softest Nappa leather and with a slight platform, they’re comfortable right out of the box and crafted to last. This flattering medium-brown shade makes them perfect to pair with your daytime beachwear or a dress for dinner.
3. Calpak Vanity Case ($68)
Packing up beauty products can be tricky. You like to bring all of your staples, but no one wants a leaky surprise on arrival. I purchased this vanity case three years ago and I’ve taken it around the globe without any issues. Founded in 1989 by Edward and Judy Kwon, Calpak (formerly California Pak) remains a family-owned business making durable, affordable luggage. A small hardshell case like this is also ideal for bringing back fragile collectables or food packaged in glass. I suspect they’re about to discontinue this model so grab one now before they’re gone!
Something to think about …
Founded in March 2020, Stop AAPI Hate is a collaboration between the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University. Their aim is to raise awareness, provide resources and promote legislation to combat violence and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
Well done! Would love to try the sandals!
