I’m dreaming of the sea. Cool water, even cooler drinks, lounge chairs ... it doesn’t get any better once the temperatures start to rise.
But if you’re also currently surrounded by concrete and lacking A/C, you need to get a bit creative to survive the sweaty season. And when faced with the prospect of another overheated, sleepless night, it’s time to throw some money at the problem in the name of comfort (and sanity). This week, you’ll meet three products to get you through heatwave after heatwave, summer after summer.
June is also Pride Month, a time for celebration around the world. But the best time to be an ally is all year round.
Stay cool. Love is love.
1. Afrodita Cosmetics Win-up Lift Frozen Mask (£35)
My favorite airport impulse purchase to date. Firming, hydrating and refreshing, this is the perfect summer mask. It has a slushy, gel texture that definitely makes you look like Rose floating on that door in the ocean waiting to be rescued, but it feels so soothing. Featuring vitamin B5 and antioxidant-rich Swiss ice wine, this mask always plumps my skin up in no time and leaves it silky soft. Produced by popular Slovenian beauty brand Afrodita Cosmetics, it feels even better after chilling in the refrigerator. Mist your face while it’s on for another cool burst.
2. Made Wright London Aria Bamboo Pyjama (£38)
A chic set of PJs just helps me feel a bit more grown up. Plus they’re ideal for weekend lounging or bringing along on a trip (instead of that t-shirt from high school with a few holes). Produced from eco-friendly bamboo viscose, this set from Made Wright is seriously soft, stays wrinkle-free and keeps you cool during the summer. I’ve washed mine multiple times now (I also have the black set) and the color hasn’t faded at all compared to similarly priced options. You can also customize them with your initials if you’re feeling fancy. Buh-bye sweaty nights.
3. Brooklinen Linen Core Sheet Set ($269)
I was hesitant about linen bedding for two reasons: the price and the wrinkles. I spent four years working as a housekeeper during college, so to say I’m particular about how a bed is made would be putting it mildly. Very mildly. But this sheet set has made me a convert (and they usually have some promo going on). Brooklinen’s sheets are so soft and breathable—they definitely helped my husband and I sleep better during London’s recent heatwave. I also swapped out our winter duvet for their Linen Quilt with matching Quilted Shams to complete the look.
Something to think about …
It’s Pride Month and while all of the limited edition rainbow products available right now are fun, I would rather donate directly to an organization doing the work. Mermaids was founded in 1995 to provide resources and support to transgender, non-binary and gender-variant children and their families.
