With the Platinum Jubilee just around the corner, London is beginning to transform into a bunting-draped extravaganza. Every street you turn down has a little something royal—flags and banners have been added to lampposts, while the store windows are adorned with fresh displays and artwork. There are crowns, corgis and Union Jacks galore. All of this pomp will be on full display over the next few weeks, which this American cannot wait to revel in.
Pomp is all about the presentation. Go big or go home. It’s the original way to be “extra.” The three items selected this week were all designed to make an impact—they’re hard to ignore, in a good way.
It’s time to put on the pomp.
1. slip® x alice + olivia Scrunchies (£39 for 3)
If you’d asked me (or any other viewer of the Sex and the City episode “Pick-a-Little, Talk-a-Little”) many years ago if I would be recommending a pretty scrunchie, I would have laughed. But after discovering how much easier silk options like those from slip are on my hair than typical hair ties, I’ve been converted. Well, in certain scenarios. And any collab with Stacey Bendet’s alice + olivia is destined to be good, colorful fun. With three vibrant colors in each pack, these scrunchies look like bright bangles around your wrist for easy access when you need a quick topknot to beat the heat.
2. Furla Primavera Shoulder Bag in Toni Ballerina (£285)
When looking for a new bag for a recent wedding, I knew I wanted something more than your standard black clutch. This one from iconic Italian brand Furla is the ideal size for social events of all kinds, reminiscent of the shoulder bags we all carried in the ’90s and aughts. Big enough to hold all of your essentials, it fits comfortably on your shoulder or in hand. The “F” clasp on the strap keeps the branding from being overkill, and the curved seam provides a clean look without compromising storage. If you’re not into prints, this bag is also available in a range of solid colors.
3. pillowhan Handmade Pillow Covers ($40 and up)
The love affair I have with cushions is real. They’re such a great way to refresh a space, which is why I’m always looking for new ones to change up the look of my sofa and bed. I’ve always adored Missoni, but I don’t have that kind of budget for the pillows I lay on to watch Netflix. Lucky for me, this Etsy shop offers lots of gorgeous designs that look oh-so-Missoni at a fraction of the cost (see: lumbar and euro sham). These pillow covers arrived quickly and add both texture and a pop of color to my living room while playing along well with the rest of my decor.
Something to think about …
I’ll always remember trying to hide my extra maxi pads in the shorts I wore under my school uniform to avoid being seen with them. And I had access to the products and care I needed.
