I love springtime. Not only are the blossoms beautiful, but people begin lingering outside more and we feel less in a hurry (most of the time) to get where we’re going. Walks turn into strolls and lunches into picnics as everything and everyone comes back to life after winter. After a tough day last Thursday, I stepped outside to see the trees in our neighborhood had begun to bloom. It was a calming sight that reminded me to stop, take a breath and remember that no matter what, a new season will come, and along with it, a fresh start.
Many of us are also likely thinking about giving our environments and possessions a refresh in the coming weeks. Out with the old and in with the new is the inspiration behind the three items featured this week. Each one adds a dose of freshness to your space or routine befitting a new season.
The upside to springing forward.
1. Plenaire Tripler (£34)
Masking is a big part of my skincare routine. I use one mask or another most days of the week, for different purposes. This mask from UK brand Plenaire combines French clay, zinc oxide, black currant fruit powder and salicylic acid to unclog pores and smooth the skin. If that combo sounds intense to you, don’t fret—this mask doesn’t burn or tingle and the physical exfoliation it provides isn’t rough. I love the whipped cream texture of this mask and how quickly it works. Just 10 minutes and you’ve given your complexion a little boost, without irritation.
2. Mango Oversize Cotton Shirt (£29)
A crisp white button-up should be in everyone’s closet. A shirt like this makes an outfit in no time and can be styled in so many different ways. Wear it with a mini skirt, jeans or leather leggings, tie it over a slip dress—you can’t miss. I’m a fan of this one from Mango because of the oversize cut that is loose without looking baggy, as well as the extended cuffs. The rounded front and back hems also keep it looking just as neat whether you tuck it all the way in, half in or not at all. Made from 100% cotton, it’s lightweight and easy to care for so you can wear it over and over again.
3. Kitty McCall Lampshades (£45 and up)
Whenever a room in your home needs a bit of freshening up, the fastest way to do it is with soft furnishings. And one type of item you may not have thought to change up is your lampshades. Kitty McCall was started in 2011 by Catherine Nice, who creates a range of colorful pieces in her UK studio in Folkestone, Kent. I have had a visit to her shop on my travel wish list since we moved here and will likely need an extra suitcase when I go to bring back loads of her prints and home goods. Her unique patterns sell out quickly, so check back regularly for the latest designs.
Something to think about …
Our pets are vital parts of our family, and the animals of Ukraine need our help right now. Humane Society International is helping to provide support and supplies to those on the ground in Ukraine taking care of these innocent souls.
