The summer heat has officially rolled into London, and we’re gearing up for a couple of steamy weeks. As much as hot weather makes us want to stay horizontal in front of the fan all day, the work doesn’t stop—and we don’t want the fun to stop, either. I’ve already changed out our bedding and amassed a healthy stash of sunscreen. Keeping warm-weather supplies on hand won’t make these long, blazing days go by faster, but it can make them more bearable. Because we wished for this all winter, didn’t we?
My three picks this week will help you stay cool and composed as the temperatures rise. Each one is already serving me well this summer and will have a permanent spot in my daily routine for the months to come. Best of all, nothing in this week’s edition is over £50 ($60).
It’s time to beat the heat.
1. LATME Ice Roller (£11.99)
Moving to the UK meant giving up one very American commodity: air conditioning. It’s just not common here at all. Luckily, I keep one of these ice rollers in my (very tiny) freezer. Created to help reduce swelling and promote circulation in the face, this roller is super easy to use, and I prefer it to other metal models. The cylinder detaches from the handle and can be stored in the freezer so it’s ice-cold whenever you need to roll away the swelling from last night’s dinner, a headache, or just give your face a refreshing blast of cold. It feels so good, I’ve gotten my husband hooked on it, too.
2. Hush Stretch-Cotton Chino Shorts (£45)
It may not last long, but it’s shorts season in London now. I added the camo version of these chino shorts (the bottom pair in the photo above) from Hush Homewear to my collection and am loving the light fabric and longer length. They still hit well above my knees while keeping me covered enough that I can move around comfortably when running errands, walking the dog or even sitting in the park. Founded almost two decades ago by Aussie Mandy Watkins, Hush makes clothing and accessories with the feel of loungewear without looking sloppy.
3. Happy Houseplants Brussels Round Plant Pot 40 cm (£49.99)
When the temperatures rise, your houseplants need special care. And that often means moving them to a new location out of intense, direct sunlight. But large plants can be very tough to move, which is why I was thrilled to find this extra large plant pot with hidden wheels to easily glide my palm into the shade. Made from lightweight, recycled plastic, these pots look crisp and clean and fit in with any decor. You can fill it with extra potting soil or pop your plant and its container right inside. Based in Essex on Berwick Farm, Happy Houseplants was founded by Emily Lawlor in 2017.
